Welcome To Naharkatia Higher Secondary School!
“Naharkatia Higher Secondary school is situated at the middle of Greater Naharkatia of Dibrugarh District, Assam in India. This is one of the most prestigious schools in the province. The school was founded on 27th March,1939 as a non government institute and named as Naharkatia M.E school. Lt. Benudhar Baruah was the first to run the school as Head of the teachers. After a few years, the inhabitants of Naharkatia town decided to start a high section in the school and accordingly, the High Section was started. The then only graduate of nearby Sola kotoki village (presently in Duliajan Constituency), Lt. Mohersar Gogoi was requested to ornament the throne of the Head Master of newly formed Naharkatia High School. With a thousand of up and downs in its way, the school even survived under crucial conditions in some temporary buildings of ‘tokopat’ when the school was sealed by the authority. In 1939, the former principal of the present Naharkatia HS School, Lt. Phatick Chandra Gogoi was invited to take the charge of the school. By knowing the internal disorder of the school, he refused to continue and discharge his duty and left the school for home. But again in 1945, people requested him to take the charge of the school. The then Headmaster Lt. Moheswar Gogoi handed over the charge of the school to Lt. Phatik Chandra Gogoi and went to Dibrugarh and joined in the same post at Graham Bazaar High School. In 1962, the school is upgraded from H.E to H.S. Section and at a due time, it provincialised in 1-10-1977. The School then had a multipurpose section too. The school was called Naharkatia Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School. Lt. Benudhar Baruah, contributed to a great extent, as an Assistant Headmaster and a Vice-Principal, for the construction of the school from the beginning. He expired on the 6th August, 1964. Some of other persons who assisted Baruah Sir were the Ex- MLA Lt. Bhadra Kanta Gogoi, Lt. Gauri Boruah and Lt. Sasadhar Boruah. Lt.B.K. Gogoi Sir, being the president of the school managing committee for many times, managed and conducted the school. Later on, the multipurpose section vanished and a Vocational stream in the higher secondary section was added on 1st October of 1992 and finally became the present Naharkatia Higher Secondary School. In this way the school got its entity and reached up to the present stage.
At present, the school consisting of Arts, Science and vocational stream is a perfect school. Now there are many class rooms, a library, an auditorium (not completed yet), practical rooms for chemistry, physics Biology and vocational stream, a computer class room, a room for gym and a large playground in front of the school.”
